Peter began his career in financial services straight out of University. A Peter began his career in financial services straight out of University. A cadetship of sorts with State Insurance saw him working in the Marketing Department, but quickly develop an affinity for the product.
A short stint in the Corporate Branch to learn the basics was followed by 3 years as a Head Office underwriter, by which point Peter had a true appreciation of risk assessment, conditions and pricing. In 1994 Peter left Wellington, and head Office, to run the Auckland Commercial Development Unit. Quickly establishing his name in the market, Peter was approached to join AIG in 1997.
Peter’s AIG career saw him cross the ditch to Australia, but with a young family the lure of home and a non-corporate roll was sufficient to entice Peter home to the family business as a Financial Planner.
Peter joined the family business, Coltmans, in 2001 and took over on the retirement of its founder (his father, Ross). He joined the Milestone group in 2010. Peter has qualified as a Certified Financial Planner (CFPCM) and maintains membership with both the IFA and SIFA to ensure he keeps up to speed with market developments. Peter has registered and seeks to be an Authorised Financial Adviser (AFA) prior to July 2011.
Peter is married to Mary and together they have two daughters, Bailey and Madison. He enjoys spending time with his family and escaping to the family caravan situated at Mangawhai, whenever it is possible. Here he can be found boogie boarding, fishing, reading and having a yarn with other Mangawhawaiians!
